Moab Arts Festival
Yesterday was another R&R day - took the bikes down for a tune-up. Today we enjoyed music from the Moab Arts Festival, in the park across the street. They've got some beautiful arts and crafts on display for sale. Next Wednesday we'll drive up to Salt Lake for Karl's nephew's funeral. Till then we'll just lay low. Karl's still trying to fix his cell phone problem, 2 from ebay didn't work out, he's now got 1 on order from Amazon.

Mesa Verde To Moab
Drove back to Moab today. Finally got a chance to stop & photograph Wilson Arch on Hwy 191. Just got word that Karl's nephew died last night in Salt Lake City. Might go up there next week to be with family. Karl's phone is still broke, got a new one on ebay but upon trying to activate it they said it was lost or stolen list. So we're back to square one.

Mesa Verde Balcony House
Karl & Larry trekked through Balcony House this morning. It was an hour guided tour. The only way in w was up that 32 step ladder. Getting out wasn't any easier, with a 12 ft long tunnel 18 inches wide, several ladders and steep steps. But we're still alive and better people for the experience. It was another R&R day for Pat and Bev.

Another day of R&R. A short bicycle ride to the grocery store, a short walk in evening, a reasonable dinner at the Moab Diner. Pictured is Mom, Dee and Sky in Dee's little Mustang after dinner.

Moab Potash Plant
Today we did a little shopping for drawer locks, a little clothes washing, a did a ride up Potash road. Dee drove us around the Intrepid Potash mine. The mine is located alongside the river at the foot of Dead Horse point. If you like to work in a place with a view send them your resume. We saw one of the locations where the Lone Ranger will be filmed.
Moab LaSal Loop and Canyonlands By Night
Yesterday we drove the Moab LaSal Mountain Loop Road which winds along the Colorado River for 20 miles then goes up into the LaSal Mountains and loops back into Moab. We had a sack lunch at Mason Draw Campground in the Aspens. Beverly, Larry & I had a little bike ride and discovered a really nice trail along Mill Creek. At night we enjoyed a great Chuckwagon dinner and boat ride which featured a light show along the cliffs of the Colorado River. If you go to the dinner I recommend the baked beans and the bbq beef. Pick up two plates, put the salad on one and the entrees on the other.

Arches
Spent Wednesday, 5/16, with Bev & Larry at Arches National Park. We all took the 1.1 mile hike to the windows (the first arches trail), which has North & South Arches and the Turret Arch. Pat elected to sit out the remaining hikes; the Double Arch Trail & Broken Arch Trail. The Double Arch trail is short and easy, but the Broken Arch Trail is about 2 mi, very sandy and fairly strenuous, it had some terrific views though including the Tapestry Arch. We also took a ride out to the Delicate Arch viewpoint and got some terrific photos of the very popular landmark. The day was windy and overcast most of the day. Last night didn't cool down much, but it's under 60 already tonight - great sleeping weather, which I'll be doing in about 2 minutes.

Dead Horse Point
Enjoyed the day with Bev & Larry at Dead Horse Point and Island In the Sky. Wonderful views of the Colorado River from a point 2000 ft above it. Enjoyed a short hike to Upheaval Dome in the Island In The Sky part of Canyonlands National Park.

Moab Biking
Today was R&R. We rode our bicycles down main street. The dogwood trees are in blossom all over town, very pretty - as you can see.

Moab Biking
Today, 5/13, we enjoyed a church meeting with the Sheldons, then a cordon bleu chicken dinner prepared by the men, (Mother's Day you see). We took a little ride on our new bikes down to City Creek. Got Mom to pose with the bikes, both look pretty good, don't you think.
Moab Red Rock Relay
Yesterday, 5/12, they held the Red Rock Relay in Moab. Teams of 6 ran from the Moab park, across the street, down Hwy 128 alongside the Colorado River then up into the La Sal Mountains and back to the park, a total of 70 miles. The afternoon temperature was well into the 90s. We enjoyed watching the runners leave and return almost 10 hours later. Pictured is one of the returning teams with their medals/pendants.

Moab Canyonlands By Night
We're in Red Rock Country, Moab, Utah, preparing our Lazy Daze for our 6 month vacation to New England for the autumn color revue. We've added an AC, got the evaporative cooler working, fixed the awning and fixed a dozen little problems that a hard winter's storage always creates. But now it's ready to roll. Beverly and Larry will be here on 15th and we'll do our Red Rock Country visiting then. We'll then travel to Mesa Verde with them. We enjoyed a great dinner and boat ride at the "Canyonlands by Night" resort. A wonderful light show illuminated the canyon walls above the Colorado River during the boat ride. Wiley, our grandson, ushered us into the restaurant, fed us and provided the light show - Way to go Wiley.
